Vehicle Safety Questions


Before your Practical Test, the examiner will ask you two questions, these will regard to your knowledge of the Vehicle. These are in Pre-Set combinations, they will be comprised of one "Show Me" and one "Tell Me". If you fail to answer one or both of these questions correctly, this will incur in one minor fault on your test report. For all Questions and Answers, please ask your instructor if you require more information.


"Show me" and "Tell me"  Questions

Q: How would you check the parking brake (Hand Brake) for excessive wear ?

A: You will need to demonstrate by applying the parking brake (by keeping your foot on the footbrake) that when it's fully applied it secures itself; and it is not at the end of the working travel.

Q: How would you check that the horn is working ?

A: Point to the Horn and press it. (Only press it if you are asked to by the examiner)

Q: How you would check that the power steering is working before you begin a journey ?

A: You would check it by applying gentle pressure on the steering wheel, when the engine is started, you will see a slight movement as the Electric Power Steering begins to take effect.

Q: How would you check that the direction indicators are working correctly ?

A: Turn on the ignition (if required), then turn on the hazard lights and walk around the vehicle checking the bulbs. If needed, you can do each side individually using the indicators.

Q: How would you check that the headlights and tail-lights are working properly ?

A: You need to operate the relevant switch (turn on the ignition if necessary) and walk around the vehicle checking the functions of the lights.
